Stronger Together

About us

Turihamwe Empowerment and Advocacy (TEA) started in July 2019 as an indigenous Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) operating in Kakumiro district in Western Uganda and is fully registered by the Uganda NGO Board. We are working towards empowerment and advocacy of young people (10-21 years) women, parents and other vulnerable groups to acquire knowledge and skills to achieve independence, sustainable growth and development.

Women and girls are vulnerable and need to be empowered with skills to acquire a dignified life. Majority of the girls have dropped out of school due to poverty, teenage pregnancy or early marriages while women experience all forms of domestic violence. Poverty and illiteracy is increasing in rural communities and lack of information is affecting informed decisions for health, education, equality and access to resources. All these are necessary if more young people and women are to become agents of change. Literacy of women is key to improving health, nutrition and education in the family and decision-making in society. Based on this background and the high rates of school drop outs due to poverty and teenage pregnancy, increasing cases of gender based violence due to low education, poverty and unemployment which affects family cohesion, decision making and choices for better services in rural communities led to the commencement of the NGO.
